Earthquake Relief in Kyegundo, 2010
An Emergency Food Program of the Kilung Foundation provided tsampa, butter, cheese and tea to 2,000 earthquake victims immediately after the 2010 earthquake. A unique yak herd program followed, providing 300 Kyegu families in extreme need with Dzachukan yak dairy foods for the following three years.
Snow Disaster Relief in Dzachuka
During the snow disaster of 2008, when several thousand animals perished in heavy snowfall, the Kilung Foundation provided feed for starving animals, food for devastated families, and funds for a pilot program to bring back the ancient practice of harvesting wild grass for spring fodder. The latter was embraced by tribal leaders and adopted for the whole community.
