Rebuilding the Kilung Shedra

The Kilung Shedra was destroyed by fire on April 7th, 2016.

The new Shedra will be opening in the Fall of 2023,
thanks to the generosity of donors throughout the world!

The rebuilding of the Kilung Shedra and Community Center began June 17, 2018.
Construction happened during the short Tibetan summers.

Donations are still needed for the interior woodworking of the Shedra temple.

As a result of the fire, classes at the shedra were suspended. While waiting for the rebuilding of the Kilung Shedra, the children and monks scattered in different places, some at home, some in public school, and some at other Shedras such as Dzogchen, Shechen, Jangma, Palpung and Machen.

Architectural plans were then developed for a new three-story, modern and environmentally sensitive building.

A geological survey was completed in 2017 and construction began the summer of 2018.

The new Kilung Shedra will allow the monks and children to return to the Kilung Valley to continue their studies and education close to home. It will accommodate not only the present and future needs of Vajrayana students in a far-reaching community but also provide expanded space for youth programs, medical and health care, and community development activities.
