Fire destroys Kilung Shedra and Children’s School

The Kilung Shedra and Kilung Children’s School was destroyed in a devastating fire that began yesterday at 11 am and quickly spread throughout the entire building. Fortunately, the monks and children were off-site at a community event and there were no deaths or injuries. The main temple is slightly damaged.

The fire was so hot that it was still burning through the night.

County officials together with the local community are working together and helping with getting tents to house the monks and students in the still cold weather, with the intention that classes will continue despite the disaster.

Kilung Jigme Rinpoche’s message is: “We won’t give up. This is something that you have to face. We must rebuild and we cannot let a fire destroy children’s education and the continuation of monk’s Buddhist studies.”
